2018 お餅つき大会 Rice Cake Making Event

I hope you are all enjoying your holidays and getting ready to welcome the coming new year!

Speaking of the New Year, some may be wondering about our annual Omochitsuki/Rice Cake Making Event.  Where did it go? What happened to the event this year?

Mainly, we have noticed from past years how busy people are during the Christmas & New Year holidays, and how challenging it is to get everyone together during the hectic time at the end of December. After hearing many of your thoughts and ideas on the matter, we have decided to have the event in January. The event is now set to be held at 11:00 A.M. on Sunday, January 14, 2018. This will also allow for many other people from different generation-groups to come join us for the event as well.

As usual, one day prior to the event, we will be in need of many volunteers to help in making preparations and setting up the venue. The same goes for the day of the event, an hour before start (this would be 10:00 A.M. on Sunday the 14^th). Lastly, we will also need volunteers to help pound the Omochi during the event, and also to help clean up afterward (about 3:00 P.M. on Sunday the 14^th).

We would be grateful to those of you who are willing to lend us your rice-cookers and electronic-mochitsuki (rice-cake-making) machines for the event. If you could, please bring these appliances to the venue one day before the event (Saturday the 13^th).

Also, as usual, the event will be open to the general public, so be sure to bring all your family and friends to come join in the fun.

Here are the event details:

What:

Omochitsuki / Rice Cake Making Event, 11:00 A.M. on Sunday, January 14, 2018 (it’s a 2-day event for volunteers, includes Saturday the 13^th).

When:

Day-1 Preparation: SATURDAY, JANUARY 13, 2018 at 2:00 P.M. (2-3 hours)

Day-2 the Event: SUNDAY, JANUARY 14, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. (volunteers: please arrive at 10AM to help make last-minute preparations, and stay after 3PM to help clean up. Thank you!)

Where:

Japanese Cultural & Community Center of Washington (west side Conference Rooms)

Due to the limited parking spaces available in the neighborhood, please consider taking public transportations or share rides to come to the venue on the Sunday event.

Fee:  Free (suggest minimum donation: $5 per person.)

   今年も余すところわずかとなり、皆様におかれましては、新年を迎える準備に追われている事かと存じます。

   いよいよ年越しですね。そして年越しやお正月と言えば、お餅つき大会です。

日本では、年末に家族や会社などで集まって、一緒にお餅つきをして楽しい時間を過ごします。

   アメリカでは、会社や教会のクリスマスイベントに参加したり、家族や親戚のクリスマスディナーに行ったり、そして、仲間との大晦日のカウントダウン・パーティーや新年会にも参加したり、12月は結構忙しい季節ですね。

   その為、今回のシアトル・タコマ福岡県人会、恒例の年末お餅つき大会は、多くの人々が参加できるように、1月に変更させていただきました。

   いつものように大会前日には、準備があります。そして、大会当日にもお餅つきの準備と調理もあります。今回も多くの方にボランティアとして、準備にご協力頂きたいと思っております。どうぞ皆様、ご協力頂きますようお願い申し上げます。

   そして、炊飯器や電気の餅つき機をお持ちの方は、それを貸して頂けると助かります。よろしければ、大会の前日（1月13日午後2時）に、会場までお持ち頂けますと幸いです。

   ご多忙とは存じますが、皆様お誘い合わせの上、是非ご参加下さいますよう、お願い申し上げます。   

【イベントの詳細】：

内容： お餅つき大会　（前日には準備があります。）・参加料：無料

・前日準備：2018年1月13日（土曜）午後 2:00 P.M. から5:30 P.M. まで

・お餅つき大会当日：日時：2018年1月14日（日曜）午前11:00 A.M. から午後3:00 P.M. まで

（午前中には、大会開始の一時間前に事前準備があります。午後のお餅つき大会終了後にも片付けがございます。）
